Under the symbol of the Order of Malta

Since the foundation in approx. 1048 a.d., the members of the Order of the Knights Hospitaller engage to fight against the eight woes (guilt, homelessness, sickness, loneliness, disbelief, lovelessness, indifference and hunger) symbolised by the eight-pointed cross.

Lessening suffering and bringing the comfort of Christian charity to those who need it are the mission of the Order of Malta not only by means of material aid but through personal commitment in homes and hospices, during ambulance services and in the homes of the people in need. Their help goes out not only to the sick but to the victims of social exclusion, the persecuted and the refugees without any differentiation as to race or religion.
